Canine Oral Hygiene
The course explained
The iPET Network Level 3 Award in Canine Oral Hygiene is designed for pet owners and pet professionals. This qualification has been developed in line with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 in respect of what constitutes an act of veterinary surgery and does not in any way advocate or support the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions nor sub-gingival scaling activities.
The qualification is theory based only and supports canine welfare; canine dental care and oral hygiene measures and should not be seen as a replacement for regular assessment and treatment provided by a veterinary professional.
There are 2 options for this course, you can attend for One Day or you can complete remotely. There are 3 theory unit covering:
- Unit 392: Preventative Canine Dental Care and Oral Hygiene.
- Unit 393: Principles of Canine Dental Anatomy.
- Unit 394: Professional Practice that can start during the one day course or completely remotely.

Entry requirements:
The minimum age is 16 to take part in the course and have a basic understanding to work at Level 3.

The qualification
The qualification has been designed to give Candidates the knowledge and understanding of preventative canine dental care and oral hygiene, knowledge of canine dental anatomy and professional practice.
This qualification has been designed to enable Candidates to:
- Understand how to carry out an assessment and be prepared to complete oral dental care.
- Understand how to safely carry out dental care and appropriate tools to use.
- Understand canine dental anatomy and identify signs of good hygiene and diseases.
- Understand relevant legislation and boundaries.
- Understand how to communicate with customers and create a customer disclaimer form.
- Understand ongoing preventive dental care.
